Privacy Notice
1. Who is responsible for your data
Solved Publications, sole trader, The White House, 1–2 Hilgrove Street, St Helier, Jersey JE2 4SL, is the controller of the personal data described here. Contact: support@solved-publications.com.
Paddle.com is the merchant of record for purchases and acts as an independent controller for payment, tax and fraud purposes — see Paddle's own privacy policy. We are the controller for delivery of the book and for our relationship with you.
We have not appointed a Data Protection Officer because we do not carry out large-scale systematic monitoring or large-scale special-category processing. If that changes, this notice changes.
2. What we collect, why, and on what basis
| Data | Why we have it | Lawful basis |
|---|---|---|
| Email address | To deliver the book, to recover your download link, to answer you | Performance of a contract |
| Name (if you give it at checkout) | To address the delivery email and any support reply | Performance of a contract |
| Order details — items, amounts, currency, tax, country, transaction reference | To deliver what you bought, to answer queries, to keep accounting records | Contract; legal obligation (tax and accounting) |
| Download records — when a link was used, how many times | To enforce the download limits and to investigate a shared or misused link | Legitimate interests (protecting the product) |
| Hashed IP address (we store a hash, not the address) | Fraud and abuse prevention, and security of the service | Legitimate interests (security) |
| Correspondence with us | To resolve your query and keep a record of it | Contract; legitimate interests |
We do not collect special-category data, we do not build advertising profiles, and we do not sell or rent personal data to anyone.
Marketing: we will email you only about the product you bought and matters arising from it. We will not add you to a newsletter or marketing list without your separate, explicit opt-in, and you can withdraw that at any time.
3. Who we share it with
| Recipient | What they receive | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Paddle.com (merchant of record) | Payment, tax and order data; your email | To take payment, calculate tax, issue the receipt, handle refunds |
| AgentMail | Your email address, the delivery email content | To send the download link and transactional messages |
| our own server | Technical logs (including hashed IP) | To run the site and keep it secure |
| our object storage provider | Nothing identifying — signed URLs are time-limited | To serve the book file |
| our accountant | Order and payout records | Statutory accounting |
| Law enforcement or a regulator | Only what is lawfully required | Legal obligation |
We use processors under written contracts that require them to protect your data and to act only on our instructions.
International transfers. Paddle operates through entities in the United States, Ireland and the United Kingdom, and our other providers may process data outside the EEA/UK. Where that happens, transfers rely on an adequacy decision or on Standard Contractual Clauses with additional safeguards.
4. How long we keep it
| Data | Retention |
|---|---|
| Order and tax records | 7 years (accounting and tax law) |
| Download links and download records | 24 months after the order, then deleted or anonymised |
| Email delivery logs | 12 months |
| Support correspondence | 24 months after the query is closed |
| Hashed IP addresses | 90 days |
| Web server logs | 30 days |
When the retention period ends, the data is deleted or irreversibly anonymised.
5. Your rights
You have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you, and receive a copy;
- correct data that is wrong or incomplete;
- erase data we no longer need for the purpose we collected it (subject to our legal record- keeping obligations — order and tax records cannot be erased early);
- restrict processing while a concern is investigated;
- object to processing based on legitimate interests;
- portability — receive the data you gave us in a structured, machine-readable format;
- withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent (for example marketing).
To exercise any of them, email support@solved-publications.com. We reply within one month, and we may ask for information to confirm your identity — we will not ask for more than we need.
6. Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, tell us first at support@solved-publications.com — most things are resolved there. You also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority: the Office of the Information Commissioner (Jersey).
If you live elsewhere in the EEA or the UK, you may complain to your local authority.
7. Cookies
We use one strictly-necessary session cookie and no advertising or analytics cookies. Details are in our Cookie Policy.
8. Changes
We may update this notice. The version and date are shown at the top. If a change materially affects you, we will tell you by email where we can.
